Since its founding in 1815, Royal Doulton has been committed to the furtherance and development of ceramic art pottery. With uncompromising dedication, the company as a whole and the individual artists involved, have created splendid works of art pottery to meet and even influence the tastes of the day. Possibly the finest accolade earned by this philosophy was the Royal Warrant bestowed by King Edward VII in 1901 with the special right to use the word 'Royal' to describe all Doulton products.
Yet even before this honour the Doulton Company had been awarded a fine array of medals and gained worldwide acclaim in International Exhibitions. As a fitting tribute to the man who led the company to this success, in 1887 Henry Doulton was knighted by Queen Victoria for his services to ceramic art pottery and science, the first potter ever to receive such an honour. These awards have been treasured by the company and have proved valuable incentives to maintaining the highest traditions.
Whitley Collection is pleased to announce a premier Royal Doulton art pottery event to take place July 17-19, 2009 at the Ann Arbor Marriott in Ypsilanti, Michigan. This preeminent international exposition will feature an expansive roster of prestigious, international exhibitors featuring the finest in Royal Doulton, Moorcroft, and other masters of British art pottery design.
